Virginia Beach OBGYN is looking for a Medical Assistant who’s equal parts clinical rockstar and paperwork wizard—someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings positivity to every patient encounter.
What You’ll Be Doing (aka Your Superpowers):
🩺 Patient Care & Clinical Support:
- Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms and help them prepare—whether it’s changing gowns, collecting specimens, or calming nerves.
- Collect vital signs, medical histories, and perform screenings as directed by providers.
- Assist physicians and nurses with procedures—OB, GYN, and everything in between.
- Relay post-visit instructions to patients and their families clearly and compassionately.
🧪 Lab & Specimen Handling:
- Properly label, store, and document specimens for lab testing—accuracy is everything!
- Complete lab and imaging requisitions, and ensure follow-up on pending or past-due results in the EMR.
- Mail normal result letters and place post-op follow-up calls per provider instructions.
💻 Documentation & Communication:
- Keep patient records up to date in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Obtain hospital notes, lab/mammogram reports, and surgical documentation as needed.
- Answer and place calls to patients for appointment recalls, questions, or instructions—always friendly, always professional.
- Alert nurses to urgent issues and emergencies, per clinic protocol.
🧼 Infection Control & OSHA Compliance:
- Follow all infection control guidelines—cleaning rooms, instruments, and equipment between patients.
- Wear appropriate PPE, dispose of sharps and biohazard waste properly, and help maintain exam room cleanliness.
- Keep records up to date for equipment calibration and infection control.
📦 Other Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with ordering and stocking supplies (no one likes an empty glove box).
- Participate in clinical quality improvement initiatives and accreditation compliance (hello, NCQA, ACOG, OSHA, and AIUM standards!).
What You Bring to the Table:
- High school diploma required; medical assisting course and certification preferred.
- 2+ years of experience, especially in OB/GYN? Major bonus!
- CPR-certified and comfortable with phlebotomy and injections.
- Pro at using EMR systems and multitasking like a champ.
- Organized, detail-focused, and able to stay cool when things get hectic.
- A compassionate communicator who genuinely enjoys helping others.
Why You’ll Love Working Here:
- You’ll be part of a tight-knit, supportive team that truly cares about each other and our patients.
- Beautiful, modern office in the heart of Virginia Beach.
